I am almost 22 years old. My favorite thing in the whole entire world is to be happy, laugh, and smile! I go to school at Texas Tech University full time and work basically full time teaching ballet, gymnastics, and facilitating mommy-and-me music classes. I am working towards a degree in speech pathology. The time I don’t spend at work and school I either hang out with my boyfriend or family or friends. I really love playing and hanging out with my nephews and nieces… Kids are the BEST!!Olivia Spikes on a bus

What is your greatest accomplishment?

I feel that my greatest accomplishment is being happy. Being happy is the best life decision I have ever and will ever make. That might sound kind of silly, but I think in the long run that is a decision that will help all other decisions I have to make, such as who to marry, when to start a family, where to live, and so on. As long as I stay happy and positive and strive to live the true Gospel of Jesus Christ everything will work out! Life is great!

What brings you the greatest happiness?

The number one thing that brings me the most happiness is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The second thing is that I choose to be happy. I believe that happiness is a choice. There was a time in my life that I was very unhappy due to a lot of circumstances I was in. One day when I was about 18 years old I decided I was ALWAYS going to be happy… And guess what? I am, almost every day of my life! Life is just fabulous thanks to a loving Heavenly Father and a wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ!

What strengthens your faith in Jesus Christ?

The fact that Jesus Christ literally knows everything I have gone through and will go through. He knows me personally and suffered for my sake as well as everyone else’s that has ever lived and will ever live.

One time I broke a rib, and I texted my uncle (who had broken ribs before due to wrestling in high school) and asked him what to do about it. He said there is nothing you can really do for a broken rib but to take the opportunity to realize Jesus Christ suffered for you without help. That was really powerful. I thought, “Man, I am a wimp” but in the end I realized something in a greater way than I ever had before.

Jesus Christ is my loving Savior who loves ME and suffered and died for ME! It was a great experience!

How has one of your spiritual gifts/talents benefited your life?

I have several gifts, but I think the one that sticks out to me the most right now is the gift to be happy. I know that God has given me this gift to not only lift myself up but those around me. He loves all of His children and yes, we are each a son or daughter of God. WOW! We are literal sons and daughters of God. That just amazes me.

He has provided us all with special talents and gifts that not only help us but help others that don’t have our same gifts, and that way we can unify together and lift everyone up. One thing I am told by almost everyone I meet is how in the world can I be so happy ALL the time? And I do get asked that often, especially at work.

I work with children between the ages of 0-12 and I don’t know if you all know this, but sometimes children test patience, and when it’s lost we tend to lose our temper and happiness. However, I go into work smiling and walk out of work smiling. Life is just too short to be sad and grouchy all of the time. CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY!!!!!

How do you know when you’ve received answers to prayers?

Sometimes I get something physical; other times it is something I feel. It depends on what I pray for. If I pray for rain and it rains, that is something I can see, or if I pray to do well on a test and I do, that is something that I can see.

Other cases would be maybe praying to seek guidance for the direction I am going in life, and life just falls into place, and I don’t see it, but everything works out, and when I look back and reflect, I realize it was an answer to my prayer.

Olivia’s Conversion Story

I think that life is a conversion process. There are a lot of things I know to be true, but I don’t think I will ever know fully everything I will need to in this life. I am constantly learning and growing spiritually. It is a life-long process.

I know that the Book of Mormon is true because I prayed for it and I received an answer. However, I don’t know the Book of Mormon inside and out, and am continually learning that all the time, but I do know it is true, and when I learn more, I am converted more and more.

I know that the Church is true because I prayed about it and received that answer. I don’t know all of the ins and outs of the Church but I do know a lot about it, and I do KNOW that it is true.

Happiness is a choice

What are ways you share & live the Gospel with your family or others around you?

By being an example. Most people I am around know that I am a member of the Church, and I try to be the best example I can. I try to talk nicely about people, I try to always be positive, and if people have questions about the Church I try my best to answer them.

What is your hope/wish/prayer for all women throughout the world?

I think it is so absolutely IMPORTANT for ALL women to realize their self-worth. We are ALL beautiful daughters of a loving Heavenly Father, and we mean so much to him. It doesn’t matter what we look like or dress like or talk like. All that matters is YOU! We are all different and we will all fail – no one is perfect. As long as we turn to God and turn to each other to help each other and not tear each other down, that’s all that matters.
