The Law and the Prophets

“Here to fulfill”
Matthew 5

The Savior sat on the mount and told His followers to be meek, merciful, pure, and to be peacemakers. He told them to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Each person surrounding Christ absorbed His words, all hoping to be more like Him.

“Please don’t think I am here to get rid of the law of Moses,” Jesus explained. “I am here to fulfill and complete it.”

He saw a little relief in the eyes of the people.

“Until heaven and earth disappear, no part of the Law will vanish until everything is accomplished,” He continued. “If anyone leaves any part of the commandments out and teaches others incompletely, he will be the least in the kingdom of heaven. But if you practice and teach them these commandments fully, you will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”

The pressure seemed to lift for those listening to this important teaching, but they knew the Savior was teaching out of love and truth.

“Unless your righteousness and obedience surpass the scribes and Pharisees of the law, you will definitely not enter the kingdom of heaven,” Christ asserted.
