Jesus came into a village and was invited to eat at the house of a woman named Martha. Her sister named Mary was also there.
Martha stayed very busy, trying to make sure that Jesus was comfortable. She cooked and cleared the table, all the while Mary sat at Jesus’ feet and listened to His teachings. Martha was upset that Mary wasn’t helping her.
“Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do all the work alone?” she asked.
“Martha, Martha,” said Jesus with compassion. “You are anxious and worried about a lot of things. Only one thing is important right now, and Mary has chosen that. The things Mary is receiving from me will never be taken from her.”
