What are works?
Saturday, January 21st, 2012There is debate in Christianity as to the value of works. Some Christians believe we are saved by our belief in Christ, and that His grace is sufficient to save us — works are unnecessary. Both Catholicism and Mormonism (the doctrines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) believe in both faith and works, essentially that we are judged for our works, but saved by God’s grace. What do the scriptures say? And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works (Revelation 20:12, 13).
