Mormon Views: The Garden of Eden

Tuesday, March 12th, 2013

The Garden of Eden holds a place of significance in Mormon belief about God’s plan of salvation for his children. Plan of Salvation Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, often mistakenly called the Mormon Church, believe all human beings are children of God who once lived in heaven with Him prior to the creation of the earth. Because He is a loving Heavenly Father, He organized a plan for the growth and eternal salvation of His children. The Family: A Proclamation to the World, issued by the First Presidency and Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ, summarizes God’s plan: “In the premortal realm, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshiped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize his or her divine destiny as an heir of eternal life.”1 Adam and Eve, the first... Read the rest of this entry »

Overcoming Our Barriers to Grace

Friday, November 2nd, 2012

Sometimes I just want my life to look like I’ve got everything under control.  I don’t necessarily have to really have everything under control, just the outward appearance that I’m organized, self-sufficient and always calm.  And lately, I’ve realized this is a recipe for disaster. I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (sometimes mistakenly referred to as the Mormon Church).  As Mormons, we believe we should follow our Savior Jesus Christ in His teachings and principles as we strive to become more like Him.  Jesus Christ’s immaculate atonement provides the necessary resources (grace) to help us become clean, improve our lives and come back to Him. And occasionally it’s much easier said than done. In a book titled, Experiencing Christ: Your Personal Journey to the Savior, written by Randall J. Brown, and published in 2009 by Cedar Fort, Inc, Brown talks about our own barriers that keep us from becoming... Read the rest of this entry »

Eternal Families

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2012

I would like to share my little story about why I choose to follow our Heavenly Father’s teaching in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (sometimes called the “Mormon Church”). I am grateful that Heavenly Father has blessed me and given me a great husband. He led me to the Mormon missionaries and the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Gospel has been planted into my heart and influences my life every day. When I was an investigator of the LDS Church, it was difficult for me to learn and understand the church teachings,.  I was Chinese educated and knew nothing of Jesus Christ or the Bible. Everything in this church was new to me. I remember when I met the Mormon missionaries; they told me that through Heavenly Father’s plan, family can be eternal. I was curious and wanted to know more. Then they brought me a Chinese version of “The Family, Proclamation to the World”.  I read it, and it really comforts my heart so deeply. How important... Read the rest of this entry »

How Do I Come Unto Jesus Christ?

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

We are not left alone on this earth. Jesus Christ was sent to this earth to give us the strength to overcome challenges, problems, and sin. To overcome sin. He asks us to look to Him with faith that He knows what is best for us. There is a pathway that the Lord Jesus Christ has provided for us so that we might be able to find peace in this life and eternal life in the next life. He has given us the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Lord prospers all those who follow the gospel of Jesus Christ. In The Book of Mormon, a record of the teachings of Jesus Christ that God gave to the ancient inhabitants of the American continent, it says: And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending... Read the rest of this entry »

Two of The Best Christmas Gifts….

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

Tinsel, garland, gifts under the tree, smells and scents that connote a beautiful time of year–these all are reminiscent of Christmas, a time for the joyous celebration of Christ’s birth. The first real gift of Christmas is the Baby Himself, Jesus Christ.  He is ours to receive, to know, to love, to worship as Savior of the World, the Only Begotten in the flesh, the Son of God.  The second real Christmas gift, intimately connected with Himself, is the key to the knowledge of  Him which has been restored to the earth through the re-establishment of His own Church on the earth–The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (inadvertently called by friends of other faiths, the “Mormon Church”). These are two gifts in one: the Savior, and His Church in our day! These are the real gifts of Christmas! Christmas Message: Jesus Christ Established His Church & Restored It In Our Day From the creation of the world, the prophets... Read the rest of this entry »

Believe in Jesus Christ

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

Believe in Jesus Christ To believe in Jesus Christ is to trust Him, rely on Him, depend on Him and His grace. The Savior’s grace is His enabling power that flows to us unmerited, and it  comes by virtue of the Savior’s solitary, singular, magnificent atonement. What is His atonement?  How does He give His grace? Let’s talk about that for a minute, not comprehensively for that’s impossible in this or any space, but sufficiently to understand the simplicity and profundity of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice, death, Resurrection for us. Jesus died to pay the price of our sins, weaknesses, poor judgments, and to suffer for our pains, sicknesses, injustices, and confusions.  He has already finished that atoning sacrifice!  He agonized in Gethsemane and on the cross for your sins and mine, to pay the debt that justice asks to erase the full penalty of sin. Through that payment, requiring His life, He met justice fairly and satisfied... Read the rest of this entry »

The Means of Escape

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

A man walking along the road happens to fall into a pit so deep and dark that he cannot climb to the surface and regain his freedom. How can he save himself from his own folly? Not by an exertions on his own part, for there is no means of escape in the pit.  He calls for help and some kindly disposed soul, hearing his cries for relief, hastens to his assistance and by lowering the ladder, gives to him the means by which he may climb again to the surface of the earth.
