Quotes on Faith: Without Faith It Is Impossible to Please God
[Faith] is the foundation of all righteousness (Hebrews 11:6). Without faith, it is impossible to please God (1 John 3:7). Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). …Faith is the first great governing principle which has power, dominion, and authority over all things. By it they exist, by it they are upheld, by it they are changed, or by it they remain, agreeable to the will of God; and without it there is no power…(Joseph Smith, Lectures on Faith, 1).
Faith is always a gift of God to man, which is obtained by obedience, as all other blessings are….An enriched faith means an enlarged power, and though man may not have in this life an occasion to exercise all the powers that come to him through the enrichment of his faith, those powers may be exercised in their fulness in eternity, if not in time (Joseph F. Smith, Gospel Doctrine, 444–45).
The commandments we receive from God are blessings, not hinderments. He gives us those commandments, which, through keeping them, will bring us closer to Him and able to hear His promptings and receive His grace. Obedience to these commandments, even if we don’t understand them, increases our faith and trust in God, as living His principles bears fruit in our lives and brings us joy. Once we have faith, we are obedient because we Love Him, and we bring forth acts of service to help His other children. Faith is an action word. It leads us to repent, to live righteously, and to rely on God rather than upon our own wisdom.
